新山华族秉持着自义兴公司时代以来的团结宗旨,贯彻“一山一校一庙”的精神。除维持本身籍贯的丰富文化特征外,也发展出具本地独有的柔佛古庙游神文化及二十四节令鼓。两者皆已列入国家非物资文化遗产。每年的游神盛会是新山一大要事,共同的记忆;而后者更成为了大马华人扬威海外的文化品牌,创立人之一的陈徽崇(Tan Hooi Song)先生获颁为[马来西亚国家文化人物National Living Heritage of Malaysia]。同时,每年农历八月,为期一个月,新山中华公会发起了“万盏华灯庆中秋(Mid-Autumn Carnival)”传承与发扬中华文化。

Preserving The Chinese Identity in Johor Bahru

The most distinguishing characteristic of Chinese community in Johor Bahru is the three century-old traditions : "a temple, a mountain and a school". The temple refers to Johor Old Chinese Temple, while the mountain refers to Tiong-Hua Chinese Cemetery and the school refers to Foon Yew School. The spirit that emphasises on tolerance and unity is called "the republic of five clans". The existence of the spirit started a century ago has become a unique cultural property of Chinese community in Johor Bahru. The city also boasts a unique annual Chingay parade and the 24 Festive Drums, both gazetted as Malaysia National Heritage, while the late Tan Hooi Song is also recoginsed as "National Living Heritage of Malaysia”. The annual and month-long “Mid-Autumn Carnival” is also popular and key in promoting Chinese culture and tradition.
